The Omega-3 Index Plus Test measures fatty acid levels in the blood and reports omega-3, omega-6 and trans fat blood levels. View sample report >
The Omega-3 Index test measures the amount of EPA and DHA in yourblood, specifically the red blood cell membrane. Membranes, or cell walls, are made of different kinds of fats called fatty acids. We have found that having a higher proportion of EPA and DHA in the membrane tracks with how much omega-3 is in your diet and is a marker of better health. Raising your Omega-3 Index to the desirable zone of 8% will help ensure you are getting enough of the right omega-3s — EPA and DHA — to protect your health.

How to Use
How to Use
- Remove all components from the small plastic bag. Locate the collection card with the barcode on the front.
- Register the kist at omegaquant.com/start using the barcode on the collection card. You will NOT receive your results unless it is registered.
- Fill out information requested on the collection card.
- Prepare for fingerprick by improving blood flow by washing your hands in warm water and standing up and shaking your hand at your side.
- Clean the tip of the finger (index, middle or ring) with the alcohol wipe. Allow alcohol to dry unassisted.
- Twist off the blue protective lancet cover. Place the lancet lightly on the tip of your clean finger and press downward firmly into your finger until a click is heard.
- Wipe away the first show of blood with gauze.
- Gently squeeze the finger allow a blood drop to form.
- Let the blood drop off your finger onto the collection card into the center circle
- When the blood spot is collected, apply pressure to the finger with gauze pad and bandage the prick site.
- Let the blood spot dry with flap open for several minutes. Fold the flap on the collection card over to cover the dried blood spot.
- Pace the sample collection card in the plastic bag and seal the bag. Place this bag in the pre-paid return mail envelope, then mail on the same day.
- Discard the lancet and other supplies in the trash.

Trans Fat Index
The Omega-3 Index test measures the amount of EPA and DHA in yourblood, specifically the red blood cell membrane. Membranes, or cell walls, are made of different kinds of fats called fatty acids. We have found that having a higher proportion of EPA and DHA in the membrane tracks with how much omega-3 is in your diet and is a marker of better health. -
Omega-6:Omega-3 Ratio
The Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio (also written “n-6/n-3”) analyzes 7 omega-6 fatty acids and 4 omega-3 fatty acids. The total amount of omega-6s and omega-3s are divided by each other to get a ratio. We recommend a ratio of 3-5:1 (omega-6:omega-3).
-
AA:EPA Ratio
The AA/EPA ratio is your level of arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid, vs. eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid. These are important fatty acids in metabolism because powerful signaling molecules can be made from them. These molecules can affect anything from blood clotting to birth contractions to inflammatory responses. Having different levels of these two fatty acids could affect processes that ultimately impact inflammation and overall health.

Dr. Bill Harris goes back to where it all began...
OmegaQuant was founded in 2009 by Dr. Bill Harris, one of the world's leading authorities in fatty acids, particularly omega-3 EPA and DHA. To date, he has published more than 400 scientific papers and is considered to be among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. In the early 2000s, Dr. Harris conceived the Omega-3 Index, which is seen as the standard by which researchers, healthcare providers, and the public measure omega-3 status. To date, the Omega-3 Index has been featured in more than 200 research papers. While OmegaQuant's legacy is fatty acid testing and research, in the last few years the company has expanded its scope to include testing for other nutrients such as vitamin D and B12. In the video, Dr. Bill Harris goes back to where it all began...

Omega-What?
Your body is a powerful and complex machine. But it is incapable of producing its own Omega-3, the fatty acids needed to keep your cogwheels turning. Thats why fish is on the menu.

We don’t eat enough fish
With a daily intake of Ballstad Omega-3, you are investing in a healthy lifestyle, strengthening your body and mind for a long and active life.

Realize your true potential

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid
These types of fatty acids are not produced by your body, but are essential to your well-being and development. So they must be consumed in food or through supplements.

EPA & DHA
EPA is an inhibitor of cellular inflammation in your body. It is also key for reducing neuro-inflammation in the brain. DHA helps keep the cell membranes fluid, healthy and flexible. This in turn increases the transmission of signals from the surface of the membrane to the interior of the cells, and communication between cells.
