What is Omega-3

As our modern lifestyles and eating habits change, omega-3 deficiency can quickly become a global health problem. We do not eat enough fish, and the fish on the plate does not always contain the amount of omega-3 that the body needs. That is why dietary supplements are highly recommended. With a daily intake of Ballstad Omega-3, you invest in a healthy lifestyle, strengthening your body and mind for a long and active life.

A daily intake of Ballstad Omega-3 improves health. By sharing our knowledge of the health benefits of omega-3, we empower our followers to make positive changes in their lives.

Omega-3 are considered essential fatty acids. This type of fatty acid is not produced by the body itself, but is essential for your health and development. You must consume omega-3 through food or supplements. Every cell in our body is surrounded by a cell membrane. The cell membrane consists mainly of fatty acids. The membrane regulates which nutrients enter the cell and which waste products are removed. Cells without healthy membranes lose flexibility, integrity and the ability to communicate with other cells, which can lead to health problems. Omega-3 allows the cell membrane to remain flexible and healthy. Omega-3 also helps your body control inflammation, blood clotting, stress and promotes brain development.

The many health benefits of long-term use of sufficient amounts of quality omega-3 are well documented, and we want the world to know it. We see it as our mission to inform all our customers, so that they can make smart decisions for their health based on scientifically supported facts.

Evidence from over 30,000 studies conducted on EPA and DHA indicates that they play important roles in the body that positively affect the structural components of cell membranes.

How much omega-3 do I need?

This is one of the first questions people tend to ask, and the hardest to answer.

There is no universal agreement on EPA and DHA dosage. Recommended daily intake of omega-3 has not been scientifically established in the same way as with nutrients such as vitamin C or calcium. Health experts usually suggest daily intakes based on a person's stage of life, state of health, nutritional profile and what research shows. But one thing is true for everyone: omega-3 is a key component of cellular health, and thus fundamental to optimal health throughout life.

What are EPA and DHA

EPA and DHA have consistently been shown to be the most beneficial fatty acids in thousands of published studies. Although they are often mentioned together, they affect your body in very different ways. EPA is an inhibitor of cellular inflammation in the body (inflammation). It is also key to reducing neuroinflammation in the brain. This is why all research on depression, ADHD, brain trauma, etc. has shown that EPA has a greater effect than DHA.

DHA helps keep cell membranes fluid, healthy and flexible. This in turn increases the transmission of signals from the surface of the membrane to the interior of the cells, and communication between cells.

Fish is the most important source of EPA and DHA in omega-3, but unfortunately people do not eat enough fish regularly. Even those who eat fish a few times a week do not get enough EPA and DHA. This is because much of the fish consumed today is farmed fish, which is lean and lacks significant amounts of EPA and DHA. Many people avoid fish due to growing concerns about environmental toxins, such as mercury, dioxins and PCBs. Ballstad Omega-3 fish oil undergoes a careful multistep molecular distillation and filtration process in Norway, where the oil is refined down to an omega-3 concentrate that is free of heavy metals and contaminants. This results in an almost tasteless and odorless, high quality oil with concentrated levels of EPA and DHA.
